Adapted Curriculum (Extended Content Standards) Teacher

We are hiring for a great client in Smithfield, NC. This is an on-site contract opportunity for an Adapted Curriculum (Extended Content Standards) Teacher who will provide specialized instruction to students with significant disabilities, focusing on functional academics, communication, life skills, and access to grade-level learning through individualized and highly differentiated instruction.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement individualized instructional plans aligned with IEP goals and Extended Content Standards

Provide direct instruction in functional academics, communication, life skills, and vocational skills

Adapt and modify curriculum to meet students’ individual learning abilities and needs

Use evidence-based instructional strategies to support students with significant cognitive and developmental disabilities

Monitor student progress and collect data related to academic, behavioral, communication, and functional goals

Collaborate with related service providers, paraprofessionals, general education teachers, and families

Create a structured, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment

Support students in developing independence, self-advocacy, social skills, and daily living skills

Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development and implementation of student goals

Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with district, state, and federal special education requirements

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education, Adapted Curriculum, or a related field

Valid NC Special Education teaching credential with authorization appropriate for the students served

Previous experience working with students with significant support needs preferred

Knowledge of Extended Content Standards and alternate curriculum frameworks preferred

Experience developing and implementing IEPs and collecting student progress data

Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills

Ability to differentiate instruction and use a variety of instructional and behavioral strategies
