Accounting Supervisor

We are seeking an experienced Accounting Supervisor for a contract / temporary role with a client in El Cajon, CA. This position is heavily accounting-focused (approximately 80–90% of the role) and will oversee two direct reports while managing full-cycle accounting responsibilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in general ledger accounting, accounts payable, and month-end close, with the ability to start immediately.
Schedule: On-Site, Monday – Friday 7:00am-4:00pm
Key Responsibilities:
- Process and post accounts payable invoices with 3-way matching.
- Set up and maintain vendor records, including W-9s, ACH details, and resale certificates.
- Process weekly ACH and check payment runs, applying vendor discounts where possible.
- Monitor and resolve uncashed checks.
- Maintain 1099 vendor listings for year-end reporting.
- Reconcile company credit card activity and upload receipts and purchase orders.
- Review and update the month-end checklist, including sales commissions and intercompany general ledger entries.
- Download and review GL reports, investigating discrepancies.
- Prepare financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and trial balances.
- Perform bank reconciliations and various journal entries (e.g., depreciation, leases).
- Perform daily cash reconciliation, credit card batch postings, and petty cash handling.
- Maintain check register and cash drawer reconciliations.
- Create new customer accounts and process credit applications.
- Serve as backup to accounts receivable by preparing invoices, posting payments, and processing credit card transactions.
- Approve employee timecards (no payroll processing).
- Order office supplies and coordinate vendor services (e.g., janitorial, linen, fleet registration, utilities, freight invoices).
- Maintain organized files and records for accounting and administrative needs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field highly preferred.
- Prior experience in an accounting supervisory or similar role required.
- Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, AP, and month-end close processes.
- Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to lead and support a small team effectively.
- Available to start immediately.
