We are hiring for a reputable and growing organization in the Los Angeles area seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join their team. This is a key leadership position responsible for supporting the overall accounting function, strengthening internal processes, and contributing to the company’s continued financial growth and operational efficiency.
This role is ideal for a hands-on accounting professional who enjoys working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and has experience overseeing core accounting functions while partnering cross-functionally with leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Controller in managing and overseeing daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger activities
- Lead and review critical accounting processes to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with company policies and reporting standards
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, identifying trends, variances, and areas for improvement
- Assist in coordinating and executing month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring deadlines are met
- Calculate and review commission structures, royalties, and sales-based incentives, ensuring proper accruals and reporting
- Perform reconciliations related to revenue streams, including royalty income and other complex accounts
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls to ensure compliance with GAAP and audit requirements
- Partner with leadership to support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning initiatives
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance, training, and performance oversight
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (operations, sales, inventory, etc.) to ensure financial accuracy across systems
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
- 4–6+ years of progressive accounting experience, including exposure to full-cycle accounting and financial reporting
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience managing small teams (2–3+ staff)
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal controls
- Experience working in mid-sized organizations (approximately $15M+ in revenue preferred)
- Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks or similar ERP systems
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies and resolve issues efficiently
- Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment and take ownership of key processes
