Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) 

We are hiring for a great client in East St. Louis. This is an on-site contract opportunity for a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) who will support students with visual impairments by providing specialized instruction, consultation, and access to the general education curriculum in a school-based setting. 

Responsibilities 

• Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments, including braille instruction and compensatory skills 
• Assess students’ functional vision and learning needs in collaboration with the IEP team 
• Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to visual accessibility needs 
• Adapt instructional materials into accessible formats (braille, large print, tactile, audio, digital) 
• Consult with general education teachers and support staff on accessibility strategies and accommodations 
• Support the use of assistive technology and specialized tools for visually impaired students 
• Participate in IEP meetings and provide progress updates and recommendations 
• Collaborate with orientation and mobility specialists, related service providers, and families 
• Ensure compliance with state and federal special education regulations 

Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education of the Visually Impaired or related field 
• Valid IL teaching credential in Visual Impairments (TVI authorization required) 
• Experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired in school settings preferred 
• Strong knowledge of braille, assistive technology, and accessibility tools 
• Understanding of IEP development and special education compliance 
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills 
• Patient, detail-oriented, and student-centered approach
